You can study for:
- MSc by Research (one year
of full-time study)
- MPhil (two years of full-time
study)
- PhD (three years of full-time
study)
A common pattern is to do
a master's year (taught master's
or MSc by Research) followed
by PhD. If you already have
a relevant master's degree you
can apply to be admitted directly
to the PhD programme.
Working for a research degree
involves:
- being trained in the research
skills you will need
working under the guidance of
a supervisor to plan a research
project and carry it out
- writing up your research in
the form of a dissertation or
thesis.
We welcome enquiries from prospective
postgraduate students in any
of our areas of research interest.
If you would like to get in
touch with an ELTC member of
staff to discuss your own area
of interest, send an e-mail
to eltcinfo@ed.ac.uk
