Due
to other teaching commitments,
ELTC regrets it is unable to
accept any academic attachments
at present.
ELTC
provides opportunities for individual
scholars and small groups to
work on specific projects in
language teaching and learning
for periods of 2-10 weeks in
areas where ELTC staff have
particular interests and expertise.
Recent attachments have included:
- A lecturer in English for
Legal Purposes from the Czech
Republic working on Legal
English materials for undergraduates.
- A Hungarian teacher of English
for Tourism collecting authentic
listening materials for teaching
and testing purposes.
- Head of the English Department,
Institute of Medicine No.
1, Yangon, working on the
syllabus for a new course
for 2nd and 3rd year medical
students.
- A teacher from Alexandria
University adapting a certificate
course for distance learning.
- Japanese High School teachers
preparing new ELT material.

When can I study?
Attachments can take
place during the academic year,
October to June. The timing
of an attachment will depend
on the availability of appropriate
staff to supervise your studies.
Three months' notice should
be given. Attachments are not
possible during July to September.
What support and what
facilities are available?
- Up to three hours per week
of individual tutorial time
with your supervisors.
- Work space with computer
facilities.
- Access to University of
Edinburgh libraries.
- Use of audio-visual equipment.
