My work at Edinburgh

I have worked here since 1980 as Tutor, Teaching Fellow, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, and in August 2011 I was appointed Professor of Student Learning (English for Academic Purposes). My responsibilities cover three main areas of EAP: the English Language Testing and Tuition Programme of in-session support for international students at the University of Edinburgh; the ELTC summer pre-sessional programme for students preparing to enter the University; and the English language components of the Integrated Foundation Programme in the College of Science and Engineering, and the International Foundation Programme in the College of Humanities and Social Science. My main areas of research and supervision have a practical focus on the language classroom: listening comprehension, feedback on speaking, and task-based interaction.
