Entry Requirements/ Participants

Our Semi-Intensive programme is intended for students who wish to combine English study with other activities in the afternoon. Classes are composed of professional people, those already studying English or other subjects, and also people from a wide range of other backgrounds. Many different countries are represented in the General English programme, giving it an international dimension which offers opportunities to learn about many cultures as well as British. Our classes are suitable for all language levels from pre-intermediate to advanced. Please note that we do not take complete beginners.

Course

General English Semi-Intensive is designed as a progressive programme of language development, meeting the needs of students who wish to study for an extended (or shorter) period on a mornings-only basis and to combine this with other activities.
The course focuses on the development of the four main language skills - listening, speaking, reading, writing - and on the understanding and appropriate use of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation in English (i.e. sounds, intonation and stress). Students are encouraged to identify areas for individual development and ways of achieving improvement using resources in and outside the classroom, including ELTC's Self-Access Centre.
The course uses both published course books and authentic written and spoken texts including video and audio recordings. Students regularly work in groups and are encouraged to find things out for themselves and to learn from each other as well as from the teacher.
