When studying
English in preparation for university
entry, it is essential to complete
at least the minimum recommended
preparation period, which depends
on the IELTS score required
by your College for acceptance
onto your particular programme
of study. 'Preparation' should
include at least 30 hours per
week - 20 hours of English classes,
and at least 10 hours per week
of self-access language study
(reading, writing, listening
and speaking) and other active
language practice. Doing less
than the minimum preparation
increases your risk of failing
to achieve the level required
for acceptance by September
2010.

Preparation
for university entry 2010
The hours shown in the tables
below represent the minimum
recommended preparation time
to achieve your target score.
The Colleges
specify an overall entry score
(e.g. 6.5 IELTS) with a minimum
on each part of the test (e.g.
6.0 on each IELTS module).
If you have a satisfactory overall
result, but have less than the
minimum score required on any
module, you will need at least
120 hours of English language
preparation.
It is important
to remember that College entry
levels represent a basic level
for university study.
We strongly recommend you to
study for four weeks, even if
you have achieved a fully satisfactory
entry score.
