Course
The emphasis
of the course is on the development
of language skills relevant
to work at a postgraduate level.
Particular attention is paid
to academic writing, listening/reading
and notetaking, and seminar
skills.
Content and Approach
Most sessions are based on core
applied linguistic and methodological
topics, e.g. discourse analysis,
gender and language, individual
differences in language learning
(exact topics to be selected
by participants). Participants
extend their knowledge in those
areas and at the same time experience
the study modes they will encounter
in a British postgraduate setting:
- academic writing
- reading and discussion of
key topics
- individual projects based
on journal articles
- seminar practice linked with
the individual projects
- comprehension and notetaking
from live and recorded lectures
- group projects, leading to
a Final Day conference
